About British Columbia
British Columbia is Canada’s western-most province and has the third largest population after Ontario and Quebec. British Columbia is a province of mountains, forests and natural resources, accessed via the international port of Vancouver, the western gateway to Canada. The province’s largest city, Vancouver, is also Canada’s third largest with over 2 million people in 2006 and has the Canada’s third largest apartment market of 104,315 units. The political capital of the province is Victoria, a much smaller city located on Vancouver Island.
Population
Population growth in British Columbia varies considerably from city to city, from a low of 1.5% in Coquitlam to a high of 13.6% in Surrey, indicating that some cities are likely built out. Compared to the rest of Canada, mobility in British Columbia’s major cities is high, generally ranging from 40% to 50%.
